Before folk Metal turned into a gimmick, Otyg were already there. Bertagen captures the band at its purest. Earthy, melodic, and deeply Scandinavian. No posturing, no plastic bombast. Just strong riffs, breathing rhythms, violin, jaw harp, and Vintersorg sounding raw, urgent, and serious. Though often called a demo, “Bertagen” never felt like one. The songs are fully formed, memorable, and played with intent. This is where Otyg’s spirit truly lives, long before it was softened or streamlined elsewhere.
Now remastered in 2025 by Vintersorg, the re issue finally does justice to this material.
