Avantgarde Music proudly announces the official reissue of Døden…, the long-sought 1998 demo from Danish black funeral doom pioneer Nortt.

Originally recorded in October 1998 and released soon after in a very limited cassette edition, Døden… marked the second chapter in Nortt’s early creative cycle, following the 1997 demo Nattetale and preceding the cult recording Graven (1999). These formative works defined the project’s unique aesthetic, a bleak fusion of funeral doom’s suffocating weight and black metal’s spectral desolation, a sound the artist himself has described as “pure depressive black funeral doom metal.”

For decades, Døden… circulated only through rare tape copies and unofficial bootlegs, becoming one of the most elusive relics in Nortt’s discography. Now, for the first time, the demo receives a fully authorized and definitive release through Avantgarde Music, restoring this early monument of despair to its rightful place in the canon of underground extreme metal. This official edition preserves the raw spirit of the original recordings while presenting the material with renewed care and expanded context. The release also features the rare bonus track “Nattens Tale”, further illuminating the earliest stages of Nortt’s solitary journey into the abyss.

Across the decades, the Danish one-man project has remained one of the most singular voices in extreme music, a mysterious and solitary presence whose discography, from Gudsforladt (2003) to the more recent full-length Dødssang (2025), continues to explore themes of death, despair, and existential void through a uniquely oppressive language.
